The University of Parma, which boasts a thousand years of history, has now about 30,000 students and 1,739 professors, researchers and administrative staff. Its rich course catalogue is made up of 42 First Cycle Degree Courses, 47 Second Cycle Degree Courses (9 of which entirely held in English) and 7 Single Cycle Degree Courses (1 of which entirely taught in English) organized into 9 Departments. In the city centre you can find the Departments of Arts and Humanities, Economics, Law and Politics, Medicine and Surgery and Veterinary Science. 

The other scientific Departments (Chemistry, Life Sciences and Environmental Sustainability; Engineering and Architecture; Food and Drug; Mathematical, Physical and Computer Sciences) are located in the University Campus, a 77-hectare area in the southern side of the city which also hosts a brand new Technopole and cutting-edge sports facilities for all students.

Marco Mezzadri

Bio:

Marco Mezzadri is a full Professor of Educational Linguistics at the University of Parma (Italy). He holds a PhD in Linguistics and Modern Language Teaching Methodology. He is a member of the Board of Directors and the director of the Foundation Year programme of the University of Parma..
He has written over hundred articles and essays in the field of Educational Linguistics and a dozen monographs of the same disciplinary area. He has also edited several more volumes. His main fields of research are bilingual education and language acquisition; inclusive language education; neuroscientific aspects of language learning and teaching; teaching Italian as a FL; language learning, teaching, and assessing for academic purposes; language policies; teacher training.
Director or co-director, member of the editorial and scientific board or referee for several series and journals. Author of a number of teaching materials and textbooks, on paper and multimedia, for Italian and Spanish as a foreign language, Italian as an L1. He has worked as a teacher trainer for FL teachers in Italy and abroad for over thirty years and held lectures, courses and seminars at numerous institutions and universities. He is the coordinator of the Lincei per la Scuola Foundation (Parma branch) and a member of the scientific board of Società Dante Alighieri.

Bio:

Giulia Costa teaches Italian as a second language at the University of Parma in the Department of Humanities, Social Sciences and Cultural Industries since 2023 and she is the didactic coordinator for the Foundation Year programme. She holds a master’s degree in Language Sciences and Cultural Studies for Special Needs and a bachelor’s degree in Modern Foreign Languages and Civilisations. She has worked as a French as a foreign language teacher in middle school and has completed an internship as an English as a foreign language teacher in high school. Her research interests include Neuroscience-based language education, Applied Cognitive Linguistics, and, more generally, foreign and second language teaching and learning.
